Mason’s Ironstone Victorian Paradise or flying Bird Comport. Dating from around 1865 to 1870 which was the period Ashworths used their own backstamp, it is very rare to find one of these comports in such good condition. The Paradise bird pattern, was widely used by other companies, but in my opinion, only the skill of the Masons/Ashworths decorators brought the richness of the design to life. The comport stands on a wonderfully fluted base supporting a large fluted bowl, which is also very richly decorated. A very decorative piece.
Condition - Very good for its age, with minor glaze crazing common to pieces of this age, but no chips cracks or crazing, some rubbing to the painted rim line.
